COVERAGE & METHODOLOGY

Useful signals. Honest limits.

What is counted?

News is counted by its source publication date and deduplicated by article ID and source URL (tracking tags removed). Regional Rosenberger mirrors and explicitly linked repeat announcements are consolidated; the earliest indexed news date is retained. Other repeated events can remain until reviewed. Patents are grouped by their recorded family reference, then counted at the earliest publication date present in our index. If a family reference is missing, that publication stands alone. Later grants in the same family do not create new momentum.

How comparisons work

The selected 30-day to four-year window includes today in America/Los_Angeles and is compared with the immediately preceding window of the same length. Missing, invalid, future-dated, and unsourced records are excluded. A zero prior count has no percentage baseline; it does not prove the technology is new.

How technology is assigned

Patents and news use a reviewed technology classification where assigned. Older news categories map to RF, industrial, power/EV, and other interconnect. AI/data-center news with optical, photonic, fiber, fibre, or CPO terms maps to optics; other AI news maps to high-speed/board. This editorial taxonomy can miss cross-cutting applications.

What these charts cannot establish

This is a curated and evolving sample. New research and backfilled records can change historical counts. The historical archive retains original publication dates and is not a complete census of manufacturer releases. Historical records enrich Trends without appearing as fresh news. News volume is not sales, adoption, or market growth. Patent publication lags invention, and indexed families are not an exhaustive patent landscape. Sparse counts are directional research leads, not statistical proof.
