INTERCONNECT INTELLIGENCE / ACQUISITIONS
How the industry
came together.
Explore acquisitions across connectors, cable assemblies, RF and optical connectivity since 2000. Follow the buyer, the business acquired, and the evidence.
Explore the transactions ↓Did Bishop include distributors?
Yes. Bishop’s 2024 report explicitly includes distributors and private equity and covers broader technologies. Its historical total exceeds 850; it reports 77% initiated by manufacturers. That is a buyer classification, not a manufacturing-target count. The public sample masks distributor totals, and the 2018 article does not provide that breakdown. Do not apply the 77% to the older 463 figure or subtract an assumed distributor count.
This index excludes distributor-only targets. Acquisitions of manufacturing businesses by private equity remain eligible. Periods and transaction definitions must align before comparing counts.

Region labels cover the buyer groups researched in this review. Untagged records have not been region-reviewed. A regional group base may differ from an acquiring subsidiary’s place of incorporation; target location is a separate matter.

KNOW THE GAPS
Research coverage by buyer and period
Focused review means a defined period was searched; partial review covers part of that period. Records only means individual deals are sourced. Not assessed means no period assessment is established. None of these labels implies exhaustive coverage, and zero indexed deals does not mean no acquisitions occurred.

What this view tells you.
Scope & dates
Includes companies, business units and asset purchases with a connection to interconnect products or manufacturing. Relevant RF, protection, test and engineering capabilities are labeled as adjacent and can be filtered separately. Coverage includes strategic buyers, smaller specialists, cable-assembly platforms, and private-equity ownership transactions. Minority or majority stakes are labeled where established. Pure sensor, semiconductor and power-conversion deals are excluded.
Completed deals use the closing date when established. A year-only date is never expanded to an invented day. Fiscal-year-only records are explicitly labeled. Transactions established as closing before January 2000 are excluded, even when a fiscal 2000 report contains them.
Counts & ownership
Each transaction is counted once. Brands within a purchased business are not additional deals. Buyer charts consolidate known legacy names and acquisition platforms, including Bel/Cinch, TE/Tyco Electronics, and TPC/Trexon. These groupings organize deal activity and do not mean every historical business remains within the same company.
Buyer means the acquirer at that transaction. It does not establish current ownership of every acquired brand. Later disposals, carve-outs and parent-company purchases can overlap; the counts are transaction events, not unique businesses.
Values & coverage
Values are shown only where established from the linked source, with currency and basis preserved. Missing values mean not established in this review, not zero. No aggregate deal value is calculated across incompatible valuation bases.
Coverage is uneven, especially in 2000–2009 and among smaller private companies and Asian manufacturers. Distributor-only targets are excluded. Purchases of manufacturers by private equity firms remain eligible and are labeled as ownership events where reviewed. The separate Bishop benchmark uses its own research scope and cutoff, and is not a denominator for this index. Do not infer consolidation rates, market share or acquisition acceleration from this sample. All entries were reviewed October 28, 2026.
